CHAPTER EIGHT
It gave life.
A tumor nature would have trouble shaking, the specimen spread its seed across the open pasture. It was once a farming village but now, it remained with dilapidated huts and dead weeds instead of a lush landscape. No life had grown on the land for half a year, but it was slowly beginning to see vegetation.
Then the intruder came. The spores of eggs ejaculated onto the jungle floor were slow-acting toxins to the environment. They fed on the dirt and absorbed the sun. The open area provided enough of both of these things to sustain their lives.
After some time, the host died. It had barely lived with the injuries it had incurred. The last act of survival was species propagation asexually. What started as three hundred seeds turned into dozens of throbbing egg sacks. Soon it would whittle down to less than ten. The most born at one time was three. Each had amassed such an energy that they were borderline oak.
Processes like these normally took a prolonged amount of time. Things had to be perfect for the offspring to mature. These eggs would grow remarkably fast and the organism within would begin to form within a few minutes.
The first identifying trait was the wooden dorsal fin.
Then they became one.

The murky green water of the swamp seemed fitting for the topography. Coated in slimy Eucheuma seaweed and grass growth that stuck high out of the water and danced around like waving fingers, beckoning for visitors to enter, the lagoon was most uninviting. Lennie half expected a bog beast to burst from within and grab him as they neared the location.
Saturated in mud, the trail to get to the tugboat was a slippery one. Lennie and Roger both nearly slipped and fell several times. Saber seemed to adjust just fine. As they got to the dock, Saber in the lead, the man seemingly unfazed by anything, he held up his arm.
âWhat is it?â Lennie asked with bated breath.
In truth, Lennie didnât want to have to be a part of any mission. He was too tired and sore all the time and the sweltering heat was killing him daily. Though he masked it well, he would much rather lay low and not get in the way.
Saber didnât respond to the out-of-shape technician. Instead, he scanned the surrounding jungle. In truth, he didnât pick up any bogies. Sound echoed throughout the vicinity which was, as far as Saber was concerned, a relief. He then waved the two men to approach the dock with him.
âAlright, letâs get this shit aboard and get to work!â Roger said as he unslung the backpack from his shoulders.
In it were a couple of M-16s and a grenade. As Saber situated the weapons on the boat, Lennie attempted to climb over the gunwale. He was struggling so Roger had to help him. Once the two men were aboard, they got to work on the engine.
Saber began to walk away.
âHey, man! Where are you going!?â Roger exclaimed.
âI need to get to a higher vantage point.
